Simms tries to get Pita to see a shrink after he starts picking up the thoughts of a serial killer, yet can't get any useful information out of the situation, like -- oh, I don't know -- the guy's address or phone number, or something!
Continuity errors: Pita says to Caine, "You have always said that our paths are a circle of light -- that if we step off we can find it again." Well, bad grammar aside, Caine never said anything of the sort until "Circle of Light," which is production number 2001 but (typically) was shown after this episode instead of before it. So...oops.
There are also many strange mistakes in the scene where Caine and Pita go back and visit the precinct of 10 years earlier, but most actually do have possible alternate explanations (besides, I mean, that they are just flat-out WRONG <G>):
POSSIBLE ERROR
In the "flashback", Mary Margaret is already a detective at 101st, but in "Rain's Only Friend," Pita had introduced her to Caine as "my new partner."
POSSIBLE EXPLANATION
She could have been there for 10 years before it was decided to pair them up together, heh.
POSSIBLE ERROR
Pita mentions that 10 years ago Strenlich was just a detective, not chief of detectives -- but Strenlich nevertheless is ordering Broderick to take "the new guy" (Caine) out on patrol to break him in, which must mean Strenlich was in some kind of position of authority.
POSSIBLE EXPLANATION
Ummm....the writers didn't even remember what they had just written?
POSSIBLE ERROR
As mentioned above, Strenlich tells Broderick to partner with Caine, who is fresh out of the academy. But in "Rain's Only Friend," Eppy was introduced as Pita's first partner.
POSSIBLE EXPLANATION
Eppy might have been Pita's first partner after Pita made detective. (See how reasonable I can sound when I want to? <LOL>)
POSSIBLE ERROR
Bill Eagleton argues with Capt. Blaisdell about who should get the position at the 101st as if he were Blaisdell's equal instead of some grunt right out of the academy.
POSSIBLE EXPLANATION
This might simply be a sign of his incipient mental breakdown. <G>
POSSIBLE ERROR
Strenlich and Broderick talk about the new guy, Pita Caine, as if they have never heard the name before.
POSSIBLE EXPLANATION
Blaisdell was so embarrassed by Pita's constant whining that he never told anyone he had a foster son, let alone admit that the kid was going into the academy <G>
Episode Highlight: Caine and the Ancient play Psychic Investigators at the funny farm.
Episode Lowlight: Simms actually gives Pita his gun and badge back -- even though Caine and Lo Si solved the crime for him. What a rip! <G>
