Quake!

  • Production Number 1021
  • Original Air Date: May 17, 1995

Caine has a strong premonition that the Ancient is about to be pinned beneath the rubble of the script, though sadly he is unable to reach the old man in time to prevent the occurrence of this tragedy. Meanwhile, across town: trapped in an elevator stuck between floors, eyes meet and pulses pound. Could this be love or is it just claustrophobia? Kermit and Captain Simms are overcome by a sudden mutual attraction...which lasts at least until "Black Widow." <G>

This episode had to be hastily cobbled together so as not to waste some footage that was ruined when one of the cameraman came to work with a hangover and the shakes. You think I'm kidding? Well, it would at least explain the lack of a plot. And the fact that they substituted a shaking camera for decent earthquake effects. And the fact that they...accidentally...left Robert Carradine's name out of the hastily-prepared opening credits. (After all, it can't be that he was ashamed to admit that he was in it; he did a credited turn in "The Phoenix" during the fourth season and if that didn't embarrass him, then nothing would.)

The Carradine Full-Employment Act (CFEA): The presence of hot and cold running Carradines in today's episode was simply a lucky break. Half the clan just happened to be visiting the set anyway, and they good-naturedly allowed themselves to be roped into the desperate attempt to make use of the shaky footage. It was extremely fortunate that the CFEA was ratified just in time to allow their mass hiring!

Episode Highlight: Although nearly squashed flat by the wreckage of the story, the Ancient SELFLESSLY tells Caine to go help others who are cluelessly wandering the streets without a script.

Episode Lowlight: It being such a nice day and all, Pita and Jody decide to stroll a couple of prisoners over to the jail. (More proof that nobody actually wrote this story!)

Third-worst-edited KF episode ever: In the scene where Caine carries the Ancient out of from under the detritus of the script, Carradine's stunt double is actually carrying Kim Chan in his arms, while Carradine himself is sort of pushing Chan along on a gurney which has been raised to a little higher than waist height (aforementioned gurney carefully being kept out of the shot <G>). When actually being carried, Kim Chan has an arm tightly around the stuntman's neck, but when Carradine is supposedly carrying him, one of Chan's arms is resting on his abdomen and the other is resting on the gurney! When they shoot from the front, you can see the stiff breeze blowing Carradine's hair all around, but when they switch to the back, there is no breeze and the stuntman's hair hangs straight down. Oh well, at least Carradine and his stunt double were wearing the same coat this time! (See "Tournament.") <G>
