Tournament:
  • Production Number 187583
  • Original Air Date: April 20, 1994
  • "THE" plot for martial arts movies -- a martial arts tournament being run by a fiend on an island somewhere. If you want to see a really good version, go rent "Enter the Dragon" or even "Mortal Kombat." If you decide to watch this one anyway, remember I gave you two perfectly good alternatives right up front! <G>

Almost interesting facts: Mako comes back as Li Sung again for next season's "Veil of Tears." He was The Manchu, the main bad guy in "Kung Fu: The Movie" in 1986 and back in the original KF, he was in a first-season episode entitled "The Tide."

This may be the second-worst edited episode in all of Fu-dom (right behind "Return of the Shadow Assassin.")

Closely watch the scene where Caine first comes to the island...notice the difference between the shots of "Caine" from the back (which are of his stand-in) and from the front, which are "reaction shots" of David Carradine seemingly filmed for an entirely different episode <G>!

    1) Filmed from the back, "Caine" approaches the castle gates. The wide-angle exterior shot shows the trees are thick with green foliage. He is wearing a light brown coat, and his hair is hanging straight out from under a bluish-toned hat.

    2) Reaction shot of Caine from the front: the trees behind him are bare, and a breeze ruffles the loose tendrils of his hair, which is otherwise tied loosely in a pony tail behind his head. And his hat is jet black!! And he is wearing a completely different, dark brown coat. Sheesh!
