The Powerpuff Girls

THE POWERPUFF GIRLS MOVIE
Written and Storyboarded by Charlie Bean / Lauren Faust / Craig McCracken / Paul Rudish / Don Shank
Villain: Mojo Jojo

This full-length movie tells the story of how the Powerpuff Girls were created and how they came to dedicate their lives to fighting crime and the forces of evil. And for this, they re-drew the characters? Now, don't get me wrong. I really liked this movie. I saw it 3 or 4 times in the theater and I bought it when it came out on VHS (yes, I'm a dinosaur -- I prefer tape to DVD) and I've watched it many times since. But here's the deal: almost any 11-minute episode of The Powerpuff Girls has way cuter stuff in it than this entire movie. Also, I can't recommend it for anyone under 13 because it gets pretty intense.

I know the writers meant to have this movie appeal to everyone, not just PPG fans. But I think in the end they appealed to no one. It didn't have enough cute stuff in it to get the fans, and it wasn't cute enough to attract new ones, in my opinion. Not that anything I say matters at this point -- the movie's been out for years and here I am just getting around to writing a review.
